Why hunt rabbit? - Sports

Rabbits where Englands mainfood source for countless years and have been one of the most costly pests in human history. Bunnies have such high value meat and are such a massive problem the real question is why not hunt rabbit?

I love rabbiting. All forms of the sport offer a different way to get a great days sport and a plate of grub. Whether im ferreting, shooting or sending in the dogs hunting always offers great sport. I think its the only thing that keeps my weight down between the drinking and over the top eatting, but hay ho.

But its not why I like hunting rabbits, its why you should. First things first, man was meant to hunt. We are nothing but clever animals and pretty much every meat eating animal on the planet hunts. And there's nothing quite like a successful hunt. The thrill of the kill is only matched by the taste of your own meal. If you think just cooking is rewarding try catching what you eat!

Then there's the sport side of it. Whether you want fasted paced sport or slower and more skilful sport the world is yours. Ferreting offers all you need if you want to test your reflexes and speed against one of the fastest land mammals you can jump on. Stalking and shooting rabbits with an air rifle offers all you could ever want you if you fancy yourself as a bit of a ninja hunter, its amazing!

The next reason to hunt is the food. Rabbit meat is a wonderful meat with a unique flavour that no other meat can really match. Its a rich and strong flavour that makes for great stews, pies and even curries. If you haven't tried it, I'll tell you want my granddad told me. Try everything once, you never know.

Then of course there's the view of a farmer. A small family of rabbits can eat a farmers dreams away in less then a year and they case millions of pounds worth of damage to British motorways and roadsides every year. All footed by the tax payer of course. If more people where to eat and hunt rabbit, the prices of crops would drop and we might see more bang for our tax buck here in the uk.

Now people tell me reasons why i shouldnt hunt rabbit all the time. They often say that's its cruel and inhuman. I assure them (and you!) that its far from it. The rabbit is always killed in ways I would call far more human then the methods used to kill most farm animals like pigs and sheep.

Then im told that rabbits are cute and nice to look at. But when you see nothing but crops stripped to the twig and trees missing bark and dieing, you might twice. Im also sure most people would call a lamb cute, but wouldn't think twice when eating a nice lamb roast! If your up for a all new sport and want to get into shape, then hunting rabbit is for you!
