Waterfowl Hunting Tips - Outdoors

For hunters, there are few things more aggravating than coming home from a hunting trip and having zero kills to your name. Successful waterfowl hunting requires the proper equipment, the right setup, and a high level of patience. These tips will help you increase your kill count the next time you head to the wetlands to do some waterfowl hunting:

* The first step is locating the ducks. This may take some time. Explore many areas, looking for large flocks of ducks and geese. If you find a flock, be sure to follow them for a few hours in order to discover where their feeding spot is located. Be sure to scout more than one flock, just in case you lose track of the original group. Once you find the perfect location, the next step is gaining permission to hunt in that area. To do so, you may have to contact the local law enforcement offices in order to receive the proper licensing. * Once you have gained access to the area you want to hunt, you need to find the right place to set up your decoys. The location of these lures will be the deciding factor or whether or not you have a clear shot. Avoid placing decoys in areas that provide a natural cover, like high grass and ditches. Rather, position them in large, open fields, in areas where the waterfowl will be able to see them from a distance. * Finding the right place wh ere you will position yourself is just as critical as the location of the decoys. If you set up your decoys in a "V-shaped" formation, position yourself in or around the middle part of the opening of the V. * No matter how you position your decoys, be sure to leave a gap somewhere in the pattern. This will provide a landing zone and allow for great shooting opportunities. In addition to these tips, it is important to have the appropriate Gun, duck calls, and other equipment that will help you not only attract the animals, but also blend into your natural surroundings.

Even if you've never been waterfowl hunting before, many places offer guided hunts that will have you feeling like a veteran hunter in no time. However, no matter how much experience you have, the most important tip for hunting waterfowl is being safe. Any hunt where everyone comes back safely is still a successful hunt.
