Choosing the right wedding photographer is just as important as choosing the right groom........ no just kidding, but finding the right photographer is very important, but there are lots of things that you can do to ensure that your wedding photos are as good as they can be.
Pre-Wedding Photo shoot.Taking advantage of a pre-wedding photo shoot if your photographer offers this service can improve your wedding pictures more than anything else you might do. Your photographer is very comfortable on his end of the camera, the time you spend with your photographer in front of the camera will help you become more comfortable being the subject.Try to get to know your photographer. Have fun. Be crazy. Let's face it; those "magazine bride photos" that you have been looking at do not happen all by themselves. They are well planned, rehearsed, and the photo that you finally see in the magazine was probably picked from hundreds of photos. The more time you spend with your photographer, the more likely it is that he or she will capture that special moment that may only happen once.
The Pose."Stand up straight", Chin up, a little to the left, shoulders back, stand on one foot, hold your breath...hang on, don't move." A good photographer will be able to pose you in an elegant and attractive position. By lifting your chin you banish the double chin. Holding your elbows away from your body reduces the apparent width of your torso and accentuates the bosom. Shifting your weight to your rear foot cocks your hips into a position that gives you a sexy curviness. There are many other little tricks your photographer may teach you.
Hair and Makeup.Your wedding day is not the right time to experiment with makeup and hairstyles. Be sure to plan a separate day to have a hair and makeup "dress rehearsal". If you plan to wear a headpiece, use this time to make sure that it will fit with your hairstyle. Try and plan to have your photographer arrive a little earlier to take some arty shots of you having the finishing touches done to your hair.
Props.Your photographer can be very creative with some of the detail you go to so much trouble arranging. When you are looking to make up your wedding album you'll want to use some of the creative images your photographer has taken of some of the detail. Don't forget to have a copy of your wedding invitation that he can incorporate into the detail shots of your big day. Photos of wedding rings, flowers, invitation and/or order of service, dress detail, shoes, the table layout and favoursetc etc can really add to your album.
The Bouquet. How should you hold a bouquet? Your photographer will show you how the bouquet looks best, he won't want to hide your thousand pound dress with a hundred quid bouquet. If you are a five foot bride, don't order a 3 foot cascading bouquet! It's going to be a long day. By the end of the day, you will be wishing that your bouquet was smaller, lighter, more durable, and maybe even artificial. And if it's too big you may even injure your guests if you decide to throw it into the crowd!
Backgrounds and AnglesRemember, your wedding day is all about you and your new husband. Complicated backgrounds in your photos distract the viewer's attention away from you. Keep backgrounds as simple as possible. Interesting and creative photographs are what distinguishes the professional photographer from "Uncle Dave". 'Uncle Dave" will save you money and his holiday pictures are probably great but don't rely on him to shoot your wedding. Your photographer will always be looking for interesting angles, climbing trees and lying down a lot is pushing a bit, but you are paying him a lot of money for creative and interesting photographs.
Lighting. When choosing your venue and time of day, keep lighting in mind. If your wedding is outdoors, the best light happens well before and well after midday. A couple of hours before sunset is a great time for wedding photography. If your wedding is indoors be mindful of rooms with high dark ceilings and few windows. Since natural light will look much better in your photos, try to plan any indoor photography when the room will be the brightest. Many wedding photographers try to use natural light where possible and although using flash and mobile studio lighting is fine you'll get a much softer look with natural light.
Single Use Cameras.Providing single use cameras on the tables for your guests to use is always popular, lots of people use them but they seldom work. You may get a few good photos here and there but don't expect too much. You'll spend a lot of money on them and get a lot of rubbish photos back. Instead ask your guests to upload their best photos onto your website or email them to you. Most people take their compact digital camera to weddings and get some great photos.
You get what you pay for.I didn't write this blog to blow my own trumpet but it is true like most things in life that you do get what you pay for. The most expensive wedding photographers are generally the best and the cheapest are generally less experienced and are looking to build their portfolio. Have a good look at what each photographer has to offer, meet up with a few and look at their work. Ask your friends for recommendations too. If you're lucky enough to have a good budget for your wedding photography then there is a good choice of excellent photographers at the top end. If you don't have much to spend on the photography please think twice about contacting "Uncle Dave". For more information on Wedding Photography go to: /
