Feral hogs have armor, a shield to protect the hog from substantial harm. Believe it or not. The thick skin is a callous or scar tissue that becomes tougher and thicker as the hogs ages. It starts from the neck and ends at the last rib.
The Right Shot is a Kill Shot
When you take a shot at a wild boar, you must shoot carefully to make your shot count. These are some vicious and feral critters with armor and tusks. The best place to aim your shot is at the neck between the shoulder and the jaw. It should be an instant kill. If you cannot make that shot due to unforeseen obstructions, aim for its rear end. You can break its pelvic bone, which keeps it from running away. When you get closer, shoot at the neck to finish the kill in a humane manner. The reason you take that shot is because of the armor I mentioned earlier. It's real hard to hit a vital organ with the tough skin, which covers the body. Therefore, keep it safe by selecting suitable targets.
Disguising Your Smell
Hogs sense of smell rivals any other animal out in the wild. But don't let that fool you. Hogs are not deaf either. They can hear a lot more than you think and their vision is underrated as well. Hogs use smell to find food and in the case of the hunter, to avoid you. So be sure to cover up your scent. You can use baking soda, sodium bicarbonate, to absorb your normal bodily smells.
Choosing a Weapon
Lot of hunters use feeders to hunt hogs. But the most important tool in hog hunting is the rifle you will use. I personally use a Marlin 444 lever with a 3x9 scope. Slow on a follow-up shot but devastating at around 150 yards. Kicks like a mule though. Also, you probably want to consider handguns, like a 44 mag. If you are an ambush hunter or for when the hog ambushes you, you need a quick shot.
Your First Hog Hunting Trip
It is important to know that hog hunting is dangerous and children should not be allowed to accompany the trip. Whether you are setting up blinds and waiting or if you plan on doing some ambush hunting, you need to stay careful with the weapons. Weapons are much needed to take down the prey buy in the wrong hands, they can become very dangerous. No one should be allowed to hunt feral hogs without knowing how to properly use all the weapons involved.>
