HUNTING TIPS FOR WOMEN!!

I've been hunting most of my life and have learned not to let vanity interfere with the joy of hunting. Of course us girls always want to look our best, but trust me the critters could care less & can smell our foo-foo for miles. And your husbands /hunting partners will appreciate you more for not scaring the game off. So leave your make-up, perfume, body sprays, hair care products etc on the counter & go enjoy the outdoors. A cute hat does wonders for your do and sunglasses cover up your lack of make-up.

Body Care,

Before going hunting, bathe in scent free products made especially to kill human scent & odors. Launder your hunting clothes(preferably camo}in scent free laundry soap, also made especially for hunters. There are several good quality products which I will list at the end of this article; some we carry on our site, others we are looking into. And don't forget to launder your undies also; I keep some just for hunting in with my camo hunting clothes.

Hunting Clothes,

If possible, put your hunting clothes on after you get into the woods, if not keep them in a bag with pine boughs or scent products. Do however wait to put your boots on just before leaving your vehicle. Respray your clothes after you don them with a good scent killer & treat your boots also. For years I used products like anise, skunk, pine etc on the bottoms of my boots. Now there are products made especially for that such as elk urine, doe in heat & so on.

Boot Tips,

Another good tip for your boots can be achieved while walking through the woods; step in any scat you come across, also rub your boot bottoms on burned logs, charcoal is a great descent-er. This is really helpful if you're hunting on a wet day or have waded through a creek or deep snow, to give your boots a fresh coating of natural scent. This is very important if you wear rubber boots hunting, as rubber scent is hard to disguise, and not natural to woodland creatures. I reccomend at least two pair of boots, one for warmer weather hunting & a waterproof pair for cold & snow. I also keep extra socks in the jeep & a regular pair of dry shoes or boots to wear on the way home, in case I'm wet & chilled.

Keeping Comfy & Warm

As to wet or cold weather hunting I recommend silk long johns, they keep you warm without bulking you up, two pair make it more convenient if you hunt alot. There are also some good light weight thermals, each woman must decide what works best for her.

So buy some camo clothing, make sure it is comfortable & suits the weather along with a good pair of boots or two, a rifle that fits your arm length with a light gathering scope and go enjoy harvesting meat for your freezer or just enjoy a day in the woods with your husband, family or hunting partner. The experience is uplifting, enjoyable & a greatest stress reducer that I know of. For myself & my husband, a day or two together in the deer woods brings us closer & puts the past week into perspective; in other words, it's wonderful for your relationship/ love life.
