Hunting is a well-celebrated pastime all over the world. For some, hunting is a leisure activity that they can do to unwind, just like any other leisure thing to do; for others, it presents a good opportunity to engage in a totally unique sporting competition. Hunting can be competitive depending on how it is played. Oftentimes the rules of hunting sports vary according to specifics, such as what animal is being hunted, however the concept remains mostly the same.
The thing that competitive hunters should know is that it's not allowed to engage in any hunting sports or activities whatsoever during certain times of the year. In fact, the government has reserved a time for hunting, which is called the open hunting season. In this season are the days when it's okay to hunt down certain "games," a term in hunting used to call an animal, a prey or a target. In order to do sports "game" hunting, a person must purchase his hunting license from the registry office or a local hunting probate. In most cases, the license will be effective for only one open season. Come next open season, he will have to get another license. Keep in mind that this would be a very different process than renewing the same license over and over. For one, it is more expensive.
Anyway, what does it matter? All sports are generally expensive, and this isn't the time to complain about the costs. Hey, this is relaxation we're talking about, here. At any rate, hunting a game can be done as a competitive sport, wherein several hunters compete for the most number of animals caught, the widest variety and so on.
The hunting season is made in order to protect the population of different species. You might think that this is to prevent extinction of certain hunted animals. It is, but the approach is rather indirect. One species of animal is not going to go extinct because of uncontrolled hunting--at least not in a span of decades. However, the decline of one species affects the natural biodiversity of the place. And in biodiversity lies interdependence, meaning that all species are dependent on one another, either in helping them through mutualism or through preying. For instance, the population of another species that is preyed upon by the animal being hunted by people may run wild. On the flipside, another species that is preyed upon by the prey of the animal human's hunt may run extinct. I know it gets confusing. To simplify things, the second level in the food chain is going to get more populous. Therefore, the third level on the food chain, which the second level preys on, will become extinct due to the uncontrolled growth of the second level.
