Every Woodsman Should Have A Camping Axe - Outdoors - Camping

One of the most convenient, useful and essential pieces of equipment that any person who spends any amount of time in the woods should have is a camping axe. This modest piece of equipment can make spending time in the woods hunting, camping or even fishing simpler, easier and in some extreme cases may actually save your life.

Choosing A Hunting Or Camping Axe

When choosing a camping or hunting axe, it is wise to purchase an axe that can serve multiple functions should the need arise. Choosing a hunting or camping axe that has the ability to not only chop but, to cut like a knife, skin animals, work as a hammer and work as compass can give you almost all the basic tools you should need for your hunting or camping adventure.

Just Why Is A Hunting Or Camping Axe So Important?

If you are planning on camping in one of those country club campgrounds or even a state park with all the amenities then you probably won't need to worry about whether you have a camping axe or not. But if you plan to camp at a rustic campground, go hiking off the beaten track or hunting in unfamiliar woods then a camping or hunting axe is pretty essential. You can use the axe to hammer in your tent posts while setting up camp, chop down fall for your campfire, sharpen those marshmallow sticks and even scale those fresh caught fish should the need arise.

When hunting, a hunting axe may even come in more handy as you can cut back thick bush. Should you get caught in the woods by an unexpected rain or snowstorm you can use your axe to cut boughs from trees to form a temporary shelter that will help keep you dry and perhaps, even help prevent you from freezing to death.

Hikers have used a camping axe to cut limbs from trees to use as walking stick or cane to get over rough areas or in cases where they may have sprained an ankle. Should the unthinkable happen a hunting axe can be used to cut through ice at the edge of a frozen pond or even be use to make a splint in a case of emergency.

Campers, hunters and hikers have used hunting axes to cut through brush when the going gets tough, build a fire and shelter for warmth when stranded and even help them forage for food or clean a kill should the need arise. If you have chosen a camping axe that has a compass, you can even use your axe to find your way home again.

While it is true that emergency situations in the woods don't come along every day, they do happen and having equipment that can help is always a plus and may well be a lifesaver. However, even if no emergencies should ever arise having a

camping axe to cut those marshmallow sticks will certainly make the kids happy.
