The Basics of Hunting - Outdoors

Many people have this misconception that hunting is as easy as picking out a Gun and getting out there (wherever it is you are hunting). For anyone who has hunted before, it is easy to say that hunting takes a lot more than that, especially to be successful.

So yes, you need a Gun or a bow, but what Gun or bow? There are so many different guns and bows, and you will need to pick one based on what you will be hunting. Common guns for hunting include rifles, handguns, or shotguns. When you choose one of this, you will need to pick a more specific caliber, certain bullets, and so on. As you can see, it is not as easy as just picking up a Gun and getting out there to hunt.

For bows, there are a variety of compound bows and traditional bows. If you're serious, you'll consider a quality compound bow.

Where are you going to go hunting? Decide what you would like to hunt, and from there try to do some research on where the best place to hunt that specific animal is. Once you have picked a specific location, and have a good idea of what you will be hunting, look into the hunting laws of that area. Each state has its own hunting laws, and they continue to become stricter as more animals are going instinct.

Now you know where you will be going, and what weapon you will be using. Are you ready? Not quite. There is a lot of other equipment and resources that you will need. First off, proper camouflage, boots, pants, and any other clothing which you feel is necessary should be bought. On top of this, you should bring a medical kit, along with food and water in case you are lost in the woods, or any other bad case scenario. Try to not pack so heavily to the point that you can barely walk by the time you reach the hunting area, but do not come under prepared either. Bring what is necessary, and leave what you think is really over-kill at home.

As obvious as it may seem, do not go hunting alone. Yes, people still do this, and it cannot be stressed enough that it is not safe. As mentioned before, you may get lost. In this case, being with someone will help you both morally and physically on your goal out of the hunting ground. It is also important to be with someone in the case of an attack by an animal. This leads to a last note; aside from researching what animal you will be hunting, research what other animals are present in the area. This will be important in coming prepared to face slightly larger animals as obstacle courses to your game.
