When hunting, do you have the right supplies? Like a repairman or dentist, it is important to have the proper tools for any hunting excursion. This will not only keep you comfortable, but more importantlysafe. Of course, it is highly advisable not to haul everything stored in your home, on your next hunting excursion. Thus, it is important to determine what you need during your next hunting trip, and what should not make the trip with you. Here are some essentials to haul in your vehicle:
1. Weaponry
The type of firearms and accessories (such as burris handgun scopes) that you use depends on various factors. These factors include your personal preference, the habitat of the game, and the method of hunting that you use. For instance, When hunting at medium range or in heavy cover, consider shotguns with slugs or buckshots. Meanwhile, when hunting at medium-to-long ranges or open shots, it is advisable to use huge centerfire rifles.
Depending on what type of hunting you are doing, you could also consider other options. These include a bow and arrows, black-powder rifles, or even handguns! Regardless of which weaponry you select, choose it carefully.
2. Stands
You have many types of stands from which to choose. A ground stand, such as a blind or shooting house, helps to hide you from the game.
The other main type of stand is the elevated stand. This places the hunter above the deer's line of sight, and also keeps the hunter above the animal's snout. Several types of elevated stands exist, including:
ladder attached to platform: place this type adjacent to a tree
permanent: you build this stand directly in the tree
self-climber: allows you to ascend a tree and then remain on the hunting platform
3. Attire
Of course, some sort of camouflage suit is a standard. However, the pattern of the camouflage will differ, depending on where you will be hunting. For instance, use a woodland pattern when you are hidden in thick vegetation, and a bark pattern when among forests thick with timber. Depending on the state in which you hunt, you may also be required to wear a certain amount of hunter orange.
4. Dog
While a dog is technically not "equipment," man's best friend can be instrumental whenever you hunt. For instance, a dog can help with small game hunting for rabbits, quail, squirrels, etc. Dogs can sense the animal's movement, and then signal the hunter. It will use different types of signals, such as a "pointer" stance, or barking. In other cases, hunters only use dogs in order to retrieve game that you have already shot, such as doves. In other instances (i.e. quail hunting), you use the dog for both signaling and fetching.
Arguably as important as the methods you use for hunting, is having the right tools for the right occasions. From weaponry to stands, and from dogs to clothing, pack everything you need for your next hunting excursion, and nothing that you do not need!
