Whether you already own land in Texas or are looking to buy, there are some great reasons to hold onto property in the Lone Star State. You may be sitting on a piece of land that can earn you a great deal of money through a perpetually in-demand, low maintenance business venture, or simply live on your acreage to see it grow in value.
1) Water Sports/Fishing
If you have a bit of land with flowing water on it, you've hit the jackpot. Running water means a spring-fed pond, a river, large creek or spring-fed lake. With "live" water, you can do a lot of things on your land to make money, or you can just hold onto it to resell later. Typically, this sort of land becomes increasingly valuable.
For the business savvy, one option is to offer fishing. You may already have bass, trout and/or other popular fish in your waters that you could offer up to fishermen. Or, if you have done some research, and it turns out that you don't have many well-loved fish in your water source, you could always buy some and stock the waters. Even a clean and decently sized spring-fed pond can be suitable for some good fishing. If you charge per person for entry and/or per fish caught, you can make a handsome sum in a season.
Those who don't have the right conditions for fishing-or would rather keep the prized trout for themselves-have another option. Offering recreational water sports can also be lucrative and easy for you. You can turn your land into a camping, boating, swimming and/or jet skiing spot, which can also roll in the dough. The best thing is that you can determine how many people you want to allow in, when to close up, etc.
2) Hunting or Ranching
If you only have a stream or brook for a water source, but you have tons of brush and woodland areas, Texas deer hunting ranches can be a good way to earn big bucks. Brush and woods-filled acreage can be a great place for deer hunting ranches because these areas naturally draw larger animals. They offer food, shelter and water. Game ranches in Texas can earn a lot of money, even with little to no upkeep involved.
3) Retirement/Family Gatherings
Of course, it's possible and popular to retire on a beautiful piece of land in Texas, too. There are a few good reasons to do this. First, the taxes are low in this state. Second, the winters are mild, and finally, the large, open spaces can be great for hosting family and large gatherings. No matter what you choose to do with your Texas acreage, it's a sound investment.
