Digital Camera Review - Canon PowerShot G12 - Hobbies - Photography

Just like a pro camera this powershot will shoot raw files alone or raw and Jpeg so that you can really find to your photos. So many features and controls in this camera is unique even dor advance point and shoot cameras. Look at the ISO dial sitting below the mode change dial. From a little distance this makes the Canon G12 look like an old fashioned film camera. Certainly the inspiration for so many switches and dials on the outside of the camera has to be the pro DSLR camera with total control over shooting at the tip of your finger. This style of control really resonates the advance point and shoot people as well as season photographers.

The Canon G12 is one of the few point and shoot cameras that still has a view finder to make sure you can always see the subject even in the brightest light. Now, having a view finder is an important feature of the Canon G12 but that view finder shows you more than you are actually getting. So it is a good idea to check out exactly what you are getting in the electronic display occasionally. To give you the most versal point and shoot available Canon also included a 2.8 inch tiltable screen so you can shoot pictures literally on the ground or way up high above your head.

On the back of the G12 we see the S button, you can program this button to control 18 different options. This allows you to (JUPPAGE) the neutral density mode or choose raw file caption to get in to preprogram custom white balance settings for example. One of the very helpful manual features of the G12 is flex on focusing, here you can move the focus square around the shooting frame. Its quite a few one of the creative feature that doesn't always have the center as the sharpest element. Sometimes after you focus on someone then you will value the frame. But do not worry the G12 will keep your subject in focus using trackable auto focus that works really well with the 3 way image stabilizer plus it is one of the only point and shoot cameras with built-in neutral density filters giving extra control in bright light. Speaking of bright light the G12 features dynamic range correction to give you the most gray tones and prevent over exposure. You can go auto or 200 percent or 4 00 percent.

Canon even added a few new features in this G12. One added feature is the 720 PHT video with stereo sound and for added control this camera has a new dial on the front of the camera that makes manual control so easy to use. This new dial will allow you faster control over exposure by adjusting the aperture of one dial and shutter speed with the other and the whole time you can see exactly what you are getting in live view. Canon added a few new aspect ratios also the 4-5 and 1-1. The most exciting for me is the 1 to 1 allowing you to comprise for the square format. It makes me think I am using my old hassle black. Another thing I really think is outstanding about this Canon G12 is you can trust it to give very good results even if you are in auto mode. Now you can go totally auto and the scene recognition mode will kick in and get you a very good photograph but most serious shooters do not wanna shoot in total automatic. So for these folks Canon has some control available even when you set it auto. A good example of this is the ability to limit the highest ISO. This way evens if you let the ISO control be in auto mode you can set it so it will not go over 1600 for example.

If we look in the scene section of the dial you see many of the regular scenes Portrait, Sports, Super Vivid, Posture Effect, Color Swap, Color Accent and a really useful scene option is the HDR for High Dynamic Range mode. When you use this mode this digital camera will shoots 3 shots and will sandwhich them together but to get the best results you really do need to use a tripod. Another scenes mode is the underwater mode, this underwater mode goes perfectly with the two underwater housings available. Canon makes one and iplike makes a very pro one. The Iplike one gives you the option of adding a fish-eye lense to get the best shots underwater. The Canon G12 offers a new adapter that will allows you to use a filter and another adapter to allow you to use many conversion lenses from fish-eye to telephoto. The hot shoe is a solid platform to add in additional flat shooted and there are a few dedicated to the Canon system. Because of the DSLR style controls, the multiple dis play options, the 10 megapixels sensor that is clean to 1600 ISO. This advance Canon Powershot G12 is one of the easiest to use digital cameras that will give you excellent results in every mode.
