There is no denying the saying that practice makes perfect. In order to develop a perfect basketball stroke, you have to be willing to devote hours upon hours practicing. However, video analysis can be another useful tool to help you develop the perfect stroke.
As you practice, many times you will not have someone there to watch you and see what you are doing wrong and what you are doing right. Because of this, it can be difficult to critique yourself and fix any problems you may be facing with your basketball stroke. Having a camera there with you gives you the opportunity to view yourself after practicing.
If you have the sources, the best way to analyze yourself is with a few different cameras. This gives you the chance to film different angles so you can see your form. Being able to see yourself from the front and side gives you the opportunity to see exactly how you are holding the ball, how your feet are positioned as you jump, and how your follow through looks.
If you do not have multiple cameras to work with, you can still film different angles. You will just have to move the camera and shoot several shots in the same position to catch the different angles. The only downside is you cannot see the exact same shot in different angles. But it still proves to be beneficial video analysis to help your shot.
Video analysis also allows you to see how you develop over time. You can compare how your shot looked when you began to how it looks a month later. Part of developing is seeing that you are making progress. If you can notice a difference for the better, you will know that it is paying off to practice and analyze your shot.
You have to understand that it is going to take time. You cannot practice once, watch the video and completely turn around your shot the next day. It is going to take weeks, perhaps months, of hard work and dedication. But having video to look at after practicing can help you see exactly what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong.
It gives you the chance to see how you are jumping, how far forward you are jumping, whether or not your elbows are in, and if your hand flicks with your follow through. There is a lot more to shooting a basketball perfectly than most people realize. And you will be amazed at the difference of your shot after video analysis of yourself.
