Most people lean one way or another regarding the sport of hunting. For some, it's a cruel and inhumane way to treat any animal, and they feel it should be outlawed. For others, it's a skill, a sport, and also, a means to put food on the table. They know with patience and practice comes the expertise needed to be a good, skillful hunter.
There are, however, certain rules, regulations, and laws to adhere to. A license is essential. Such rules, regulations, laws, and licenses are not uniform across the world or even across the country.
Often, depending on place or season, only particular animals are allowed as prey for hunters. It's illegal to hunt anything but those animals during those times or in those places. Dress codes and tree violation laws must also be observed where you hunt.
Once you have learned all the rules, then you should consider what types of tools you are going to hunt with. Ideal tools include: rifles, shotguns, cross-bows, pistols and camouflage. Always check and make sure the calibre of your Gun is legal and allowed to be used wherever you decide to hunt. Most grounds also have rules as to whether or not you may carry a concealed weapon while hunting. Some grounds require a license to do so.
One technique that is generally considered illegal, is trapping the animals by feeding them or using bait. There may be serious legal and other consequences if you leave out meat for a bear in order to bait one and get a good shot. If discovered doing this, you may be faced with a fine or having your license suspended either temporarily or indefinitely.
However there are lots of legal hunting tactics that can be used instead. One of these tactics is the use of training dogs. Training dogs have been used by hunters for decades and is often a very useful tool. The use of a training dog does require a license and you can usually only hunt certain animals such as quail or rabbits when using training dogs. The dogs also must be trained on private land or on National Forest or Department owned land during specific training hours. Most experienced or skilled hunters use dogs because they find it makes the process easier to find targets.
The rules and regulations that hunters have to comply with are actually framed for the safety of hunters as well as others, apart from animals that are not allowed to be hunted. It must be remembered that though this sport is an exciting one and enjoyable too, it is also very risky for life. Therefore, no part of it should be taken lightly.
Minors should not be encouraged to participate in this sport unless they are accompanied by adults. This is because a certain level of maturity is required. Those who have never tried it before, and are now contemplating to do so, should spend time with expert hunters and learn a few things.
Finally, even if killing the animal is the purpose of any hunting trip, it is nice to respect the creature and its environment. In fact, authorities may even impose some fines on such hunters. This is the reason it is necessary to be smart and be safe during any hunting trip.
