How To Photo Questions - Now You Are The Expert! - Hobbies - Photography

I shoot a lot of kids action sports photography. You could say that is my niche in photography. I primarily shoot baseball, softball and soccer. Id like to shoot a high school basketball game I still havent shot a football game, but that is because most of my parents have daughters. Luck of the draw, I guess.

There are always 3 or 4 parents at the field with their DSLR cameras there. Most of them just use their kit lenses and set them on Full Auto. When I get to whatever field I am shooting at for the day and I whip out that big white Canon lens, it is inevitable, the parents run up to me and the how to photo questions start.

Can you tell me how to photo my kid hitting the ball?

What setting do I put my camera on to get that color you got?

How did you get the ball to freeze after he kicked it?

Where did you get that big lens?

And the list goes on. Sometimes, I end up answering more of the how to photo questions than I do actual shooting. Dont get me wrong, Im not complaing. This comes with the territory. I, in fact, quite enjoy helping the parents.

When you are proficient with your camera, people are going to look up to you as the resident professional. A good photography course and basic photography knowledge will put you ahead of most people that own a DSLR type camera. Simply knowing your aperture from your shutter speed, your ISO from your white balance will not only give you much better photographs, it will give you expertise.

Once you know the basics of photography, you just may become the person answering the how to photo questions for everyone else too.
