Bandhavgarh National Park - Travel - Destinations

This national park is spread at Vindhya Hill ranges in Madhya Pradesh. It is known for the Royal Bengal Tigers. Bandhavgarh National Park was in the past hunting grounds for of the Maharaja of Rewa. Maharaja was a great shikari and at the same time took deep interest in conservation of wildlife. At present the park is famous natural hub for White Tigers though the last white tiger was long past.

The population of tigers in the reserve is very high and so are the chances of sighting a tiger in the wild. Bandhavgarh is popular for wildlife photography tours and expedition to see Indian tigers and other animals in India. One can come across a tiger on jeep safaris or elephant rides (tiger shows).The topography is broken, with rocky hill ranges, running in the region of east west, spread with grassy marsh and forested basin. Bandhavgarh National Park is finest national park of India.

The park s the natural habitat is for a variety of wildlife peculiar to the area. A visit to the park is an exciting experience as large numbers of wild animals are seen.

There are more than twenty two genus of mammals and two hundred and fifty genus of birds. This includes gaur (Indian bison), sloth bear, leopard, porcupine, wild boar, sambhar and spotted deer, among others and of course, the tiger and many more. The ramparts of the fort provide a habitat for long billed vulture which breeds on the cliffs. The fort is an ancient monument now in scattered ruins. But a visit to the fort and the Laxman Temple there is a must. It is an enchanting place on the plateau surrounded by dense forests. Almost all animal can be encountered here.

The undergrowth along streams and swamp is rich in bird life. The streams and rivers are the life line of this wonderful ecosystem. The familiar ones are Egret, Crane, Black Ibis, Teal, Black Kite, Crested Serpent Eagle, Black Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Dove, Parakeets and Kingfishers. Reptilian Fauna include the dreaded Cobra, Common Krait, Rat-snake, Python, Turtle and a number of lizard varieties.

Bandhavgarh is most picturesque wildlife reserve in the World. It is fun to stay in wildlife lodges and resorts at Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh. There are both luxury and budget accommodation available in the periphery of the park.

The park can be reached from New Delhi by train or from Jabalpur by road which is connected by air to Delhi. From Jabalpur the driving distance is about 41/2 hours. Bandhavgarh is also connected by about 5 to 6 hours of drive.
